Community Service

As one of our main pillars, Kappa Phi Lambda has participated in many community service events in the Baltimore area, as well as on campus. At the 2008-2009 Greek Awards Banquet, we were awarded our second Community Service Award.

We have volunteered for numerous community service events, such as: Special Olympics, Believe in Tomorrow: Port to Fort, March of Dimes, URCAD, Swim4Life, Food and Allergies Walk, Habitat for Humanities, UMBC Campus Blood Drives, Make a Child Smile, and many more.

Philanthropy

Service can come in many forms. In addition to community service, Kappa Phi Lambda reaches out to support philanthropic organizations. Our national philanthropy is the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) whose mission is to raise awareness and empower Asian American women.

Since 2001, Lambda Chapter has been sponsoring a child through Christian Children’s Fund. We are now sponsoring Junifer from the Philippines. He turned 7 this year!

Each year, Lambda Chapter continues to support Believe in Tomorrow. This is a philanthropic organization that helps terminally ill children by providing housing for their families so that they may stay close together.

For the 2008-2009 school year, we are proud to have donated a total of $1143 to support these organizations: American Diabetes Association, Believe in Tomorrow, Christian Children’s Fund, National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, and March of Dimes.
